We all know Dj Antention. Like Gtronic and Trumpdisco, Dj Antention is know for his typical sound. What I really like about him, is that he seems to accomplish to maintain that typical sound and still produce banger after banger. Here's a remix from the kick-ass song by Cyberpunkers, Cabala. X-Sundays, a radioshow hosted by the “F2U” Dj’s on Housebox radio, had another livestream going on last week.
Their monthly livestream already held guest Dj’s like Cyberpunkers, Noize Generation and only play’s alternative electronic music!
This time, they had DJ Antention as one of their guests and boy oh boy, he delivered one smashing and banging live set.

We posted a remix of Dj antention's track Ivan a few months ago, it was remixed by X-ettl, one of the guys from Aerotronic. Vecho made one too, and this one is even harder than the one by X-ettl (oh, poor ears of mine, they really have a tough time nowadays...). I prefer this one over the original and remixes, but you are of course free to disagree with my humble opinion.

The artist who would definitely have got the Ratrabbits award for "breakthrough artist of 2010" (if it existed), is Comic Strips. I have downloaded everything he has made so far, and 90% of that was pure sex (the other 10% was only foreplay). Not many producers achieve that level of versatility, quality and productivity. And he is only just starting... His latest remix is a bomb that has an impact similar to the one dropped on hiroshima.

This remix by Beatbouncers is out since monday, and it's been supported by big guns like Kissy Sell Out, Cyberpunkers, The Oddword, Shameboy,... The sound is a lot heavier then their stuff when they were still a duo, something that I can only be happy about.

The Eleven from the Netherlands is a relative young producer, but his tunes already gained support from Dj's like Dem Slackers, Riptide, Screendeath,... And his track "Pie" will be released on Southern Fried records. His stuff sounds a lot like acid house, but then with a special touch that I can't describe exactly - let's call it the" clouds touch".

It's been a decent time since the latest installment in this series, but due to all the christmas gifts I get thrown from everywhere, I have a bunch of tracks that really need some attention.

I'll start with a new bootleg from Horse, a guy from Australia, known throughout the galaxy for his insane mash-ups. Now he has taken one of my favorite tracks of all time, Divine Gosa from Radioclit, to the remix-table. The thing with my favorite tracks is that it's really hard to make something that may proudly stand next to the original...

But this one did, although it might be a little more heavy for my taste!

Figure was one of the guys that I loved in the starting days from the blog, but I somehow lost track of him somewhere... Searching through the web I found this massive bootleg for hip-hop collective NWA, which is so heavy I almost fell of my chair, got blown out of my room and landed in a big black hole!

Dj Antention is quickly becoming the new face of the Russian electro scene, now that the Proxy is working (or at least I hope he is) on his album. His "Ivan" track was already remixed by X-ettl, and now it's also been remixed by Vecho! Dj Antention particulary liked this remix, and apparently the guys from Tuff em up records in Australia liked it too, because they're releasing it! Support the 2 young belgian lads from Vecho by joining their fanpage!

Ivan Is Shipping up to Boston!

Last but not least we have a nice remix made by Clockwork. The sound is pretty different from other tracks and is probably produced in space. Sounds a bit Modek'ish i think.

Stealing samples...

Stealing beats is something that is done regularly, and most of the times stealing isn't the appropriate word for it.
Laidback Luke for example, has done an excellent job with one of his latest productions: Blogger (with a title like that you are sure to get some extra points on the blogs). It samples Anasthasia from T99, a techno classic from the early nineties, a song that everyone knows from somewhere. In this case I don't mind, because this song has gotten his credits a long time ago, so Laidback Luke can't claim that he invented the synths.

But sometimes, stealing the beats someone invented and sampling them is something that's not so innocent. You might remember that we posted some tracks by upcoming Russian producer The Mould(check that post here), who has now found a home under the safe wings of The Proxy. Dj Antention however, seems to have taken the exact same beats as him, and he putted it in his track "Go!".
I don't know who was first, and since they are both very unknown producers, I give Dj antention the benefit of the doubt.

To finish this post, I have something more optimistic. Dj Stern will be releasing his first album on Leonizer records, and the teaser for his track "Manouche" really got my attention right away. Have a look at it, you won't regret!

Sawgood interview

Like I said in my previous post, Clément Mulot from Sawgood promised us an interview. With our crappy French, and his sucky English, this sure wasn't easy, but because music is a universal language, we managed to get some valuable information out of him.

So Clement, let's start with your latest track "Teenage blitz": how did you came up with the idea to make a track with A girl and a gun? Did you contacted her, or did she made the first move?

I heard her voice on myspace, and I loved it immediately! So I decided to make her a piece, and she made some vocals for it. Then she did a remix contest with these vocals, but I didn't participated on that one because Crux records would release them under contract.

What's your idea of a perfect party?

A room to relax, my friends, some beers, wodka, a metro, a taxi, 50000 watt's, a dj, a party room, and my girl. And you?

My perfect party is a dancefloor packed with partypeople, who are jumping, screaming, crowdsurfin',... And a dj who's partying like a fool. Talking about a fool, at Fight Klub in Brussels you were sharing the decks with Huoratron. What was it like?

It was amazing! I don't listen to tons of music, I just have a list with a dozen of artists which I'm really, really digging. Life would be hard without their imputs! Bands like Noisia, Spor, Huoratron, Kissy Sell Out, Dilemn, Proxy, No Money, … , just all those producers which created their own beautiful and immediately recognizable sound. So sharing the decks with huoratron was pretty awesome!

Kissy sell out played some of your tracks some months ago. How come he picked you? And are there some other big guns who played your tunes?

Ah, that's story is really cool! One day, Kissy (which really is one of my biggest idols) changed his myspace status. I commented something funny on that, and the next moment, he sent me an e-mail to say that he was really loving my music! If I gave him some 320-bpm versions, he would give me some support. Since then, he has helped me with every new song that I produce.
There are also some big dj's who have helped me, like Calvertron and Defunct!, who remixed my first Ep (called pompin'). Famous dj's who played my songs include: Bloody Beetroots, Blatta&Inesha, Mustard Pimp, Hostage,...

Impressive list! I hope that there will be loads of others who can be added to it after this ep! Do you have a favorite Belgian dj/producer?

Yeah, of course. I really love Chant of Victory and Mashed Paper Klub.

How do you start when making a new track?

Basically, I start with making a synth that sounds like I love it (a heavy and pumpin' bass), then I make a melody with that synth, and I finish it up with a rhythm. It's often very dirty and a bit messy, so I have to remodify everything. Then I put the things in who are still missing ( leads, fx, ghost drums), and I clean it up.

Do you prefer dj'ing or producing?

That’s a difficult one. I’m actually a real composition geek, I can’t get sleep without thinking about a fat beat or a cool riff. I also love to play for an audience, but I’m not a real dj. Sometimes I’m afraid that the people won’t like it, afraid to be too much in my own world. If I have the certainty that people love what I do, I might even be willing to compose live on stage!

Beer or something stronger?

Both, my friend… I always start and end with beer. That’s also the reason why I’m coming back to Belgium soon!

What are your future plans?

Oh man, I have loads, tons of plans! A lot of feats., with Stereoheroes, Blatta&Inesha, Calvertron and an unknown Russian dj. A lot of remixes will be coming your way soon, and I also have planned a release of my third Ep on Plasmapool.
